if only, then....

Recently while on the job as a bartender I overheard the following statement made by a guest. "I would be so happy if only I did not have a mortgage." The question I pose to you is to ask yourself, "Where is my "mortgage" that I feel if only it would happen I would be happy?" I am constantly paying attention to this idea of something needing to occur for me to feel happy or at peace. The Way of the Voice of Peace teaches us not to set things up or brings things into order to find peace. It teaches that we are to begin with peace as our foundation and then whether we have that "mortgage" or not we can still be at peace.
